icecoming in to 2ndNHtpk-001 We feel excited, starting our own kennel, especially under the tutelage of our mentors, Great Mountain Chinooks, and having other knowledgeable Chinook breeders and owners as resources. It feels like an honor to help with the work of improving this breed, after reading and hearing about so many other dedicated people, and the joys and sorrows that comes with working with animals who have a shorter lifespan than we do.

After adopting older Golden Retrievers for many years, and fostering mom cats and their litters for shelters as well, we thought it time to raise a puppy. As an older person, I was looking for a breed of dog with whom I could enjoy winter sports and hiking. I had always loved the idea of dog sledding, but could see the sled disappearing without me, if pulled by dogs born to run.
The cover of an American Automobile Association (AAA) magazine caught my eye that showed the original Chinook with the man who developed the breed. As a Northern breed, originally bred to pull loads, calm and loyal, they sounded exactly what we were looking for.
For more information on Chinooks, we suggest the Chinook Owners Association, http://www.chinook.org. We are happy to send you a puppy application if you email us at clorac52@yahoo.com.
